The Tank

In the high desert of Rangely, CO, a seven-story corten steel water tank sits atop a hill, now repurposed as a highly reverberant performance venue. The behavior of sound experienced within is difficult to compare to that experienced within any other structure. This venue is The TANK Center for Sonic Arts, and Arcgeometer had the privilege of producing visual acoustic simulations showcasing the way that sound travels throughout the space. The simulations were featured in documentary filmmaker Bill Morrison’s short film entitled “The Tank and The West.” The film was projected onto the exterior of the Tank itself during a live performance by world-renowned guitarist Bill Frisell in August 2021.
